Hard Reset: FBX1200 & FBX2400:  My FBX seems to be locked up.

To clear the memory and return all parameters to the factory defaults:  Hold in the “Setup” button (“A” channel only on FBX2400) as you power on the unit. Release button once after about five seconds. There is no hard reset for the SL820, SM820, FBX1020 or FBX2020 series including “Plus” series.

Should I use the high or low-level input switches near the jacks?

The FBX1200 and 2400 have switches near the jacks for high and low-level signals.  These are used to match the FBX with your particular system and use.

The best way to determine the proper setting is to wire up the FBX and try the switches both ways while looking at the FBX's LED ladder.  The first two or three LEDs should light with normal program level.  If  only one or no LED lights try the low-level settings.  If the FBX LED ladder indicates clipping or near clipping, set it for high-level input.

The most important thing to remember is that both input and outputs must be set to the same level settings.

Can I get a power supply for the FBX901?

The FBX901 was discontinued in 2002.  Power supplies are no longer available from Sabine.  You can purchase the connecter from Mouser Electronics ,  Part#   806-KPPX-3P, for about $3.36 plus S/H.

The power supply has the following specifications:

How do you set just four fixed filters and no dynamic filters?

Set the number fixed filters to 12

Enter Setup Mode

Raise the gain until the 4th filter LED blinks

Press the Ready button.

Bug found when you set 12 fixed filters:

It seems that even if you set the FBX for 12 fixed filters, after setup, one of the LEDs blinks.  It seems that this filter is a dynamic filter.  There is no current work-around.

The manual says you can daisy-chain two FBX to get up to 24 filters.  Why?

Generally, 24 filters are too many, but there may be circumstances where 12 filters in the first channel and four in the second channel make sense.  However in most cases, 9 to 12 filters is the optimal number.

Backup battery life

Some early versions of the FBX required batteries to store the filter settings when the power was turned off.

FBX900

Most FBX900 and some very early FBX901 have batteries that are built into  a chip.  The battery cannot be upgraded in the field.  Sabine no longer supports these products.

                FBX901 and FBX1020

These products use a CR2430 3V lithium backup battery that is readably available in stores and easy to replace.  Do a hard reset and set the number of fixed filters after changing the battery.

Later FBX Versions

FBX1020 /2020 plus and Later FBX Versions use Eproms with a very large but finite number of reads and writes before they fail.

Restarting the FBX900 and 901 after changing the battery.

1. Set the unit in bypass
2. Turn the unit off
3. While depressing the RESET button, turn the unit on
4. Release the RESET button, The FILTER INDICATOR LEDs will now light in sequence
5. When the sixth LED is lit press the RESET button
6. Notice that the six LEDs on the left flash three times to verify they are now fixed filters
The fixed filters flash three times when the 900/901 is powered up
